چکیده

Resistance to Tigecycline and/or Colistin among nosocomial pathogens is an emerging problem. Objective of the study was to record the drug susceptibility pattern of carbapenemase producing gram negative bacteria causing various nosocomial infections. This study was performed over six months from January to June2013 with 167 nonrepeat culture isolates causing various nosocomial infections.Antimicrobial Susceptibility testing was performed as per CLSI guidelines (2013) in Modified Kirby-Bauer technique. Carbapenemase production was Phenotypically confirmed by Modified Hodge test. Out of total isolated 37 Carbapenemase producers, 6 were resistant to Tigecycline but sensitive to Colistin (16.21%) and 2 were sensitive to Tigecycline but resistant to Colistin (5.04%). Four isolates were resistant to both the drugs (10.81%). As a whole, 12 strains were resistant to Tigecycline whereas 6 were resistant to Colistin. Out of 17 Carbapenemase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae, 4 were resistant to Tigecycline (23.8%). All of them were susceptible to Colistin. Isolated Klebsiella oxytoca was resistant to Tigecycline but susceptible to Colistin. Isolated E.coli were susceptible to Tigecycline and resistant to Colistin All of the Carbapenemase producing Acinetobacter were sensitive to both Tigecycline and Colistin. Four Pseudomonal isolates were resistant to both Colistin and Tigecycline and one was resistant to Tigecycline but susceptible to Colistin. Out of total 12 Tigecycline resistant isolates, 4 (33.33%) were susceptible to aminoglycosides. All isolates were susceptible to Polymyxin-B, the only reliable therapeutic option.

Molecular identification of tigecycline- and colistin-resistant carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii from a Greek hospital from 2011 to 2013.

An alarming increase in the resistance rates of tigecycline and colistin among carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii recovered from a Greek hospital over a 3-year period (2011-2013) was investigated. The antimicrobial resistance profiles and carbapenemase gene content were determined for a collection of colistin- and/or tigecycline-resistant carbapenemase-producing A. baumannii isolat...

Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance Patterns and Frequency of Carbapenemase-Producing Acinetobacter baumannii Isolates by the Carbacineto NP Test

ABSTRACT           Background and Objectives: Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic pathogen associated with nosocomial infections. Treatment of infections caused by this bacterium has become challenging due to increasing rate of resistance to a wide range of antibiotics such as carbapenems. One of the main mechanisms of resistance to carbapen...

Pattern of antibiotic resistance in nosocomial infections with Gram-negative bacilli in ICU patients (Tehran, Iran) during the years 2012-2014

Background and Objective: Owing to the new patterns of antibiotic resistance, selection of the appropriate antibiotics for the treatment of nosocomial infections, especially gram-negative bacilli, has become a big challenge. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the antibiotic resistance of nosocomial infections with Gram-negative bacilli in Iran during the years 2012-2014. Material...

Resistance to Colistin in Klebsiella Pneumoniae: A 4.0 Strain?

The global rise of multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria represents an increasing threat to patient safety. From the first observation of a carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria a global spread of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases and carbapenemases producing Klebsiella pneumoniae has been observed. Treatment options for multidrug-resistant K. pneumoniae are actually limited to combi...

Identification of different species of Acinetobacter Strains, and determination of their antibiotic resistance pattern and MIC of Carbapenems by E-Test

Introduction: The Gram-negative emerged an important nosocomial pathogen, especially in intensive care units. These bacteria are cause of health infections, specifically in intensive care units (ICUs). Recent reports present an increase in acinetobacters resistance to carbapenems. This study set out to determine the antibiotic resistance pattern and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of car...
